Landmines In the 90’s, there were major campaigns throughout the county to rid the world of landmines. Princess Diana was very prominent & was a major force behind the campaign.
Locally members of our J&P group, held a demonstration in 1991 in Worthing town centre with a display of various types of dummy landmines and also a simulated landmine field, where people could experience what it would be like for farmers & people in countries to walk where landmines had been indiscriminately dropped or laid.
The global landmine treaty has saved countless lives- but some European countries are thinking of quitting it. Mines stay behind for decades after wars end, killing and maiming innocent kids. Leaders meet in Geneva in just weeks – let’s tell them to keep their promises and stay in the treaty!

3/ Live Simply Tip of the Week The assessment from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says things are poised to get worse…but also makes it clear that the future of the planet depends in large part on the choices that humanity takes today.
4/ Fairtrade Did you know that women make up the majority of people producing our food? From farms and factories to offices, women are present in every part of the supply chain – but they rarely receive a fair share for their work. Despite their hard work, 70% of the approximately 700 million people living in poverty are women. This isn’t fair and needs to be addressed. We can help turn this situation around by purchasing Fairtrade goods wherever we see the Fairtrade symbol on an item, there’s over 6,000 to choose from. St Mary’s is a Fairtrade Church.
