NEWSLETTER ITEMS from Justice & Peace Group Week Commencing 23-3-25

1/ Fr Silvester – Is setting up a senior’s club. The majority aren’t entitled to pensions or social benefits.  As a result, elderly people in the area solely depend on relatives for support. Unfortunately, the children and grandchildren often struggling to look after their own families without any external support from the government. The result is old age-malnutrition in the form of poor diet and mental illness due to isolation from the main community. The main aims of the club are therefore:

1 allow senior’s to get together & ward off social isolation

  1. Share challenges and experiences.
  2. Receive a healthy meal at least twice a month.
  3. Receive talks on various topics from specialists.
  4. Receive free medical check-up at the centre.
  5. Engage in appropriate physical exercises and entertainment.

In order to start up this club they have asked for funds to buy a large tent as the base & some chairs.  To help them get started there will be a 2nd collection next Sun 30th March.

Please note. This initiative is the first of its kind in Uganda. Its success will be a footprint for several others throughout the country, so we could also be helping start a major initiative throughout Uganda.  Please give what you can afford

 

 

2/ Fairtrade Easter Eggs with the with a booklet giving Easter message will be on sale at St Mary’s price £6.00

 

3/ Parish projects we are approaching the end of our financial support to our present parish projects.

We are now looking for new projects.  At present we have overseas projects in Jamaica & Africa, does anyone know of a project in South East Asia?  We also need some local or national projects to support. If anyone knows of any that could be considered please contact a member of the Justice & Peace Group.

 

 

4/ SHOUT Helps those who are really struggling to feed their families and the homeless. If you can spare an extra item from your shopping, please donate it to SHOUT Worthing Soup Kitchen

There are boxes for food donations at the church entrances of St Mary of the Angels. Holy Family also support a similar charity

 

 

5/ LIVE SIMPLY Tip of the Week Turn mundane tasks into acts of compassion. When you shift the focus off of yourself (your failures or achievements), you will find a new found ability to focus and a motivation to turn today’s mundane tasks into tiny acts of compassion.
