Lent Talks with Fr Terry

At the risk of boring you with my ramblings, I offer three talks (with time for questions and comments) during Lent, in St Mary’s church. No need to come; the talks will be rubbish! All Wednesdays at 7.00pm: i) 15th March: Prayer. ii) 22nd March: Universal call to holiness. iii) 29th March: Becoming what we do.

Take Part in our Parish Lent Group

To prepare for Easter, our Lent Group will resume at Holy Family this year, as we discuss the power of Jesus’s sacrifice for us and pray over its implications in our lives. It will be in the Gathering Room at Holy Family on Thursday 2nd,9th,16thand 23rd March at 2.00pm. All are welcome. Just come along, and we would love to hear your contributions.

Mass at Arundel Cathedral on 1st July to Celebrate 150 Years

There are two tickets for this Mass (and a personal invitation from Bishop Richard), which will take place at the Cathedral at 12 noon, followed by refreshments. If you are interested in going and would like your name to be included in a random selection of two names, please send Fr Terry an email saying so. One ticket will go to a St Mary’s parishioner and one to a Holy Family parishioner, so please state at which church you customarily attend Mass. Thanks.

Coronation of HM King Charles III – A Parish Celebration

On the Bank Holiday Monday, 8th May, St Mary’s will be having a special whole-parish event to mark this historic and memorable occasion. Anyone who would like to be involved in helping with the event from either church of the parish, please contact Mary Murphy, 07827 774810, as soon as possible, so that a meeting can be arranged to share ideas and make plans. Thank you.

Daily Holy Hour

The Daily Holy Hour at St Mary of the Angels Worthing, which stopped with the advent of the roof works, has now been reinstated and, except on Wednesdays and Sundays, will take place daily from 9.00am (usually at the Holy Souls’ altar) and conclude with simple benediction at 9.50am, allowing 10 minutes silence before Mass. All welcome.

Prayer – The Spiritual Toolbox of Lent

We need to find God, and God cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature (trees and flowers and grass) grow in silence. See the stars, the moon, and the sun, how they move in silence. The more we receive in silent prayer, the more we can give in our active life.

Syrian/Turkish Earthquake Appeal

Parishioners will recall the huge collection of goods made on behalf of Samara’s Aid charity and its work in Syria. Samara Levy, the founder, has written of the challenges in setting up a medical centre at Deir Ez-Zor in her book “Rebuilding the Ruins”. The horrific earthquake on the Syrian/Turkish border last Monday has again brought this work into sharp focus. Donations can be made to www.samarasaidappeal.org Alternatively, for details on how to support the CAFOD Syria-Turkey Emergency Earthquake Appeal, go to cafod.org.uk

Please pray for all those affected by this disaster. Thank you.
