2/ Current War’s did you know that the arms trade and military activities cause severe, long-lasting environmental damage, contributing roughly 5.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Key impacts include air/water pollution from toxic chemicals, significant land contamination from explosive remnants (landmines, munitions), and ecosystem destruction. Modern warfare and weapon production produce vast CO2 emissions, often exceeding the footprint of many nations, while conflicts trigger massive, long-term infrastructure.  See this hard hitting video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFjAjO0dl3M

1/ Pope Leo has invited women and men of goodwill across the world to join him in praying for peace at 5pm this Saturday (11 April). The Pope said he welcomed the news of a – albeit fragile – two-week ceasefire in Iran “as a sign of deep hope” and emphasised that “only through a return to the negotiating table can we bring the war to an end.”

Speaking in his Urbi et Orbi message on Sunday, the Pope asked people  to “search for peace and not violence, to reject war—especially a war which many people have said is unjust… which is not resolving anything.”

3The Columban commitment to living out Gospel values of justice, peace and care for creation can be seen everywhere we live and work. Examples include campaigning for peace in Korea, tree-growing with indigenous peoples in the Philippines and accompanying migrant workers in Taiwan.

Building on our mission experience here and around the world, we invite the church in Britain to confront injustice in our priority areas of ‘welcoming the stranger’ (migration and refugees) and ‘care for creation’ (action on the biodiversity and climate crises) – through practical action, education, media and campaigning. Justice, Peace & Ecology – Columban Missionaries

4/ SHOUT Helps those who are really struggling to feed their families and the homeless. If you can spare an extra item from your shopping, please donate it to SHOUT Worthing – Soup Kitchen. 5/ Live Simply Tip of the week more tips to attract Bees Here’s some Bee friendly flower’s: Poppies can bloom from early summer, right up until October – giving bees months of pollen.  Evergreen clematis why not use them to brighten up a wall, or drape them over a pergola to provide shade during the summer?  Foxglove Bees absolutely love foxgloves, and on some days it seems like they’re almost queueing up to crawl inside their many petals.

4/ National Emergency Briefing Film There is a new and exciting initiative sweeping the country that aims to inform people about the climate and nature crisis while at the same time giving us agency to respond, grasping the opportunities that this crisis represents, and giving our government the mandate to act.

The film, The People’s Emergency Briefing, is followed by a facilitated and friendly discussion on the implications and opportunities for us locally.

Did you know that more than eight out of ten people in the world want their governments to do more to protect climate and nature? Yet governments consistently underestimate the popularity of climate-and-nature friendly laws.

In November last year, more than 1,200 MPs, peers and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media gathered at Westminster Central Hall for a landmark national briefing delivered by leading UK experts. The event opened with broadcaster Chris Packham, who called for clear public understanding of the risks facing the UK. Experts addressed the implications of climate and nature breakdown for food security, health, national security, infrastructure and the economy, alongside practical evidence on how risks can still be reduced.

Chris Packham has said:

“I’d encourage people everywhere to attend a screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing. It creates exactly the kind of honest local conversation we now urgently need, both about what these changes mean where we live, and about what we can do together to address them.”

Revd xx said:

“At our church we feel excited and privileged to be part of this national effort to respond appropriately to the climate and nature crisis with both urgency and hope. All are welcome, whatever your starting point or previous view – let’s get together as a community, face up to the problem, and work out solutions together over tea and homemade cakes.”

Local MPs, councillors and community leaders are being invited to attend and will be encouraged to take part in discussing how we respond as a community.

The National Emergency Briefing is supported by organisations across conservation, education, faith and civil society, including the Church of England, WWF, the National Trust, CPRE and the Royal Meteorological Society. National Emergency Briefing on climate & nature
