NEWSLETTER ITEMS FROM THE JUSTICE & PEACE GROUP WEEK COMMENCING 5-5-24

1/ Live Simply Tip of the Week Fit more active travel into your day and daily routine As the weather warms up, it’s worth considering what journeys can be made by walking or cycling. Could you get off a stop early to walk the rest of your journey, take a relaxing stroll home, or hop on a bike and enjoy a cycle friendly route? If you prefer exploring outdoors on foot, find out if there’s a local Ramblers group.

2/ Refugees and Asylum Seekers For many years local refugees and asylum seekers have sought English lessons, and while there are ESOL providers locally, few of them are easy access (no registration required) or are for those with little or no English or can cater for different levels of English.  Many refugees and asylum seekers face significant barriers to joining classes (difficult time/place/childcare needs/wrong level etc.), Worthing 4 Refugees’ response has been to provide very successful one to one teaching in their home.

Worthing 4 Refugees are launching a pilot of new easy-access English classes.  Starting on May 1st, please find a link to the flyer with all the information on. It will not stop during the school holidays, so it may particularly be useful during late July and August.

It is also open to non-refugees/asylum seekers for a small charge (£1.50 per class); it’s FREE for refugees and asylum seekers.

4/ The United Nations Development Goals –  The United Nations Development Goals – The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.  https://sdgs.un.org/goals
