NEWSLETTER ITEMS from Justice & Peace Group Week Commencing 19-4-26

1/ CAFOD: Stand with Sudan. Give monthly.  On the third anniversary of the war in Sudan, Kayode Akintola, CAFOD’s Head of Region for Africa, asks for your help: “So many of our sisters and brothers in Sudan are facing increasing violence, hunger, and disease. That is why today, we’re asking you to consider setting up a regular gift to support families who are fleeing the violence – with food, safe water and other vital support. Monthly gifts are an act of steady love for our neighbours, a way of saying: we will not abandon you, we will stand with you until peace is restored.” Donate at Sudan Crisis Appeal

2/ Current War’s did you know that the arms trade and military activities cause severe, long-lasting environmental damage, contributing roughly 5.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Key impacts include air/water pollution from toxic chemicals, significant land contamination from explosive remnants (landmines, munitions), and ecosystem destruction. Modern warfare and weapon production produce vast CO2 emissions, often exceeding the footprint of many nations, while conflicts trigger massive, long-term infrastructure.  See this hard hitting video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFjAjO0dl3M
