1/Season of Creation   We are now in week three of the Season of Creation.  Like tributaries joining forces to become a mighty river, the church family can come together on a  path of care for our common home the earth.

Together through our prayers and actions we can unleash a mighty river of peace and justice on behalf of all creation

May God open our eyes to recognise the goodness of all creation and help us to do what we can to restore and care for the wonderful gift that we have been given. Amen

2/CAFOD – Loss & Damage Pope Francis sends this message to World Leaders prior to COP 28  “You must listen to science and institute a rapid end to the era of Fossil Fuels. It is absurd to permit continuing expansion of Fossil Fuel infrastructures. Let us put an end to the senseless war against creation & raise our voices to halt this injustice towards the poor and our children, who will bear the worst effects of Climate Change”
In response, CAFOD & other orgs. are urging the government to commit to an International  ‘Loss & Damage Fund’ to compensate poor countries for climate catastrophes suffered from Global Warming  – mainly created by rich countries.

3/PAX CHRISTI    Their Autumn newsletter ‘Just Peace’ is available at the side door.  This edition looks at Militarism, national Security, and the massive increase in arms spending.  Pope Francis calls on nations to ” convert the tools of death into tools of life, reduce military spending and spend more on humanitarian needs.”

4/Live Simply Tip of the Week Leave whitespace in your day and week. I like to leave enough space in my day to have a clear end and a fresh start between activities. This gives me time to breathe and be intentional with my next action. And the day doesn’t pass by in one great big blur.

2/ LIVE SIMPLY Tip of the Week – Many find greater well-being from owning fewer things, reducing the pressure to work to buy more and gaining time to do what brings joy. Think about the things that you let into your life that don’t need to be there and start saying no to them.

3/ The United Nations Development Goals –The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Goal 6 Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all Water and sanitation are at the core of sustainable development, and the range of services they provide underpin poverty reduction, economic growth and environmental sustainability. However, in recent decades overexploitation, pollution, and climate change have led to severe water stress in locales across the world.

Today, 2.2 billion people lack access to safely managed drinking water, and more than 4.2 billion people lack safely managed sanitation. Climate change is exacerbating the situation, with increasing disasters such as floods and droughts. 80 per cent of wastewater in the world flows back into the ecosystem without being treated or reused, and 70 per cent of the world’s natural wetland extent has been lost, including a significant loss of freshwater species.

Now more than ever the world needs to transform the way it manages its water resources and delivers water and sanitation services for billions of people. Urgent action is needed to overcome this global crisis, as it is affecting all countries around the world, socially, economically and environmentally.
Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) on water and sanitation, adopted by United Nations Member States at the 2015 UN Summit as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, provides the blueprint for ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

NEWSLETTER ITEMS FROM THE JUSTICE & PEACE GROUP WEEK COMMENCING 30-7-23

1/ CAFOD Fix the Food System At the heart of the global food crisis is a struggle for control over the world’s seeds. For generations, small-scale farmers have freely swapped and shared a wide variety of seeds.
However, the freedom of farmers to choose what seeds they use is under threat as the World Bank supports new laws which push farmers towards using seeds sold by big agribusiness.
This puts control of the world’s seeds into the hands of a few giant corporations. If we want a sustainable food system, then we must stand with small farmers across the world as they fight for control over their seeds.
Join us in demanding the World Bank end all policies that restrict farmers’ freedoms to choose which seeds they use to grow food & sign our giant letter which will be in both churches this Sun 30th July
