1/ 81 years since the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Sunday August 9th 2.30pm – 4pm The Peace Tree, Homefield Park Worthing, There will be Speakers and Poems for Peace. Petitions will be available to sign: The United States Air Force dropped one atomic bomb on Hiroshima on 6th August 1945 and a second nuclear bomb on Nagasaki on 9th August. Possibly more than 200,000 people died at the time or from radiation sickness later. We commemorate all those who lost their lives when a single atomic bomb was dropped on each city.
To find the Peace Tree: Enter Homefield Park by the Homefield Road entrance and follow the path that goes straight on towards the centre of the park. The peace tree is on your right, marked with a plaque on the ground in front of it. All are welcome.

Consider giving a home-made gift instead of buying a present, upcycling items or looking at your food shop and seeing what items you could buy differently, spending a bit more on loose fruit and veg for example
4/ CAFOD Wednesday 19 August is World Humanitarian Day – a day to honour the people who are the first to help when disaster strikes, and keep helping long after the headlines have moved on. The vast majority of humanitarians are local experts and volunteers, stepping up to help their neighbours with the help they really need, when help is needed most.
