We’ve produced a summary of the Holy Father’s message and an easy way to share this with your MP in the run-up to the COP.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pwe_bd0TUjk

5/ Message from CAFOD We have some big news about our Fix the Food System campaign! Over 70,000 parishioners from 762 parishes including our parish supported the letter calling on the World Bank to protect farmers’ rights to freely access their traditional seeds – this fundamental right has increasingly come under threat from restrictive seed laws pushed by the Bank.  Our campaign is working. Following our latest actions, the World Bank has started to listen. They agreed to meet with CAFOD representatives in both London and Morocco and have started to look at the issue.  This is an important step forward in this campaign, and we want to pass on a big thanks to you.  Like everything worth fighting for, this is not an easy journey.  We need to continue strengthening international solidarity and build on what we’ve achieved this year to ensure that the discussions we are now having with the World Bank lead to tangible action.

Letter from Fr Silvester

Letter of Appreciation from Fr Silvester Dear Fr David, Fr Terry and all Parishioners of St Mary of the Angels & Holy Family Lancing.

This is to confirm that we received from you a donation of £1317.30 on the 28th of September 2023. We have used this donation to purchase extra essential drugs for the community centre and to supplement staff salaries.

We do have 6 medical staff serving a population of 12000 people (i.e. about 1350 families). The average monthly salary for each staff is £120 pounds per month (450,000Ug. Shillings). The population is not able to raise this amount regularly and the local parish cannot also raise the same.

Your support is therefore much invaluable. In a special way; we are very grateful to the Justice & Peace group of the parish for introducing us to the Parish and their constant and invaluable material & financial support for the last 9 years.

We are also much grateful to everyone for allowing us to be friends of the Parish. May the good Lord continue to bless you with abundance. St Faustina the Saint of Mercy; Pray for us!

Sincerely yours, Rev.Fr Silvester Kewaza Bukenya On behalf of St Faustina Community Center. Uganda

CAFOD Petition Following shock announcements that our government intends to renege on its promises to fight the climate crisis, CAFOD says “the UK is leaving its international reputation in tatters”. They ask us to urge the PM to recommit to policies cutting UK’s greenhouse gas emissions to keep global temperature rise below 1.5C and to recommit to policies supporting people in countries around the world most vulnerable to the impacts of the climate crisis.

The J&P group have put a CAFOD petition at both ends of the church urging Rishi Sunak not to backtrack on climate? Please stop & sIgn – We need to show the PM that we want him to play his part in the fight to care for our common home.
