2/ The Church celebrates the World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR) this Sunday. The day offers people across our community of faith with an opportunity to express concern for vulnerable people on the move; to pray for them as they face many challenges, and to increase awareness about the opportunities that migration offers.
In a message written for WDMR, Pope Leo reflects that children are the most vulnerable group within global movements of migration: “There are very young children who have lost parents, brothers, sisters and friends, and who have witnessed unspeakable acts of violence” he writes. “…There are also minors who make the journey together with their parents, yet are exposed to extreme and traumatic conditions…
“To this already appalling situation are added further tragedies: deaths along migration routes, trafficking and exploitation, the recruitment of minors for use in armed conflicts, sexual violence, forced marriages, and the atrocities they have suffered or witnessed during their travels. Their dignity is trampled upon in countless ways.” World Day for Migrants & Refugees: “Even just one of these children” | News www.abdiocese.org.uk/news/migrants-refugees26
