Syrian/Turkish Earthquake Appeal

Parishioners will recall the huge collection of goods made on behalf of Samara’s Aid charity and its work in Syria. Samara Levy, the founder, has written of the challenges in setting up a medical centre at Deir Ez-Zor in her book “Rebuilding the Ruins”. The horrific earthquake on the Syrian/Turkish border last Monday has again brought this work into sharp focus. Donations can be made to www.samarasaidappeal.org Alternatively, for details on how to support the CAFOD Syria-Turkey Emergency Earthquake Appeal, go to cafod.org.uk

Please pray for all those affected by this disaster. Thank you.

Cake Sale for Loudes Red Shirt

CAKE SALE will be held on Sunday 12th February, after the 9.30am Mass at Worthing, the proceeds of which will support a young person from our parish to join the Red Shirts as part of the Arundel & Brighton Diocese 2023 Lourdes Pilgrimage in July

Meeting with Bishop Richard

A good number of parishioners were in attendance. We learned that things, in the deanery, will have to change more quickly than originally thought. There will probably be two main administrative hubs in the diocese: Worthing and Littlehampton. Parishes are asked now: to find more creative ways of working together, rather than replicating the same things across the deanery in each individual parish; to pursue the idea of a deanery newsletter, so that events and information can be shared across the whole deanery; look at ways in which the schools and the parishes might work more succesfully together. Worthing Deanery consists of: Worthing & Lancing, Goring, High Salvington, East Preston, Littlehampton & Rustington and Shoreham & Steyning. What suggestions might you have?

Worthing for Refugees has received a request to help find accommodation in Worthing for a Ukrainian couple currently living in Pulborough.  Unfortunately, one of them has just been diagnosed with cancer and so needs to travel to Worthing hospital regularly for treatment.  Ideally, they would like to relocate to Worthing, so that the travel to and from the hospital is easier.  They are looking for either a new host , or somewhere to rent.  So if you know of anybody that could help, please get in touch with  gay@worthing4refugees.org.uk

LIVE SIMPLY Tip of the Week Recycle your coffee grounds If you make coffee at home, you might already add the grounds to your compost bin or wormery. But did you know you can also sprinkle them directly on the soil? They’re a great free source of nitrogen and minerals. If you don’t drink coffee, your local café or coffee shop will probably be more than happy to donate their used grounds. Provided by Friends of the Earth http://www.foe.co.uk

Live Simply Tip of the Week Energy-saving light bulbs last up to 12 times as long as traditional bulbs, providing the same amount of light quality for much less energy. 80% of the energy used to power traditional bulbs is lost in heating energy, whereas LED light bulbs run at 80-90% energy efficiency.  According to the Energy Saving Trust, they can reduce your carbon emissions by up to 40kg a year.
